E-cigarettes likely to give you sickly smoker's cough

Electronic cigarettes cause the so-called ‘smoker's cough’ just like regular cigarettes, Daily Mail reported referring to the study of the scientists from the University of Kansas Medical Center.

The nicotine contained in all cigarettes, including e-cigarettes, weakens the airways and prevents them from effectively cleansing themselves of mucus. Moreover, the mucus itself makes it thicker.

The key to lung health is precisely in effective cleansing of mucus, the experts added. The deterioration of this function causes serious damage to the lungs, which was confirmed by a study with human cells and sheep.

In the process of inhaling the vapor of an electronic cigarette, more nicotine enters the body than when smoking a cigarette. Plus, from ordinary cigarettes, nicotine immediately penetrates the bloodstream, and from electronic cigarettes - a large proportion of it accumulates in the lungs.

Thus, the bronchi become defenseless in the face of various infections. And the accumulation of mucus is a characteristic symptom of many diseases, including asthma, chronic bronchitis, COPD, cystic fibrosis, and a factor that increases the risk of coughing and shortness of breath.

It is also interesting that young people are especially susceptible to the accumulation of mucus due to the smoking of electronic cigarettes and other problems arising from this.
