Legumes may delay menopause for year and half

Regular consumption of legumes can delay the onset of menopause: for women who ate legumes every day, menopause occurred one and a half years later, scientists from the University of Leeds reported.

They conducted a study with 914 women to find out if there is a link between the diet and the menopause.

In the UK, the average age of menopause for women is 51 years.

According to scientists, legumes contain antioxidants that can affect the activity of the ovaries and, accordingly, prolong the fertile period.

The study also showed that women whose diets were high in simple carbohydrates, face menopause earlier.
