Oral health problems can prevent you from getting pregnant. And vice versa: the healthier the teeth and the oral cavity, the higher the chances of successfully becoming pregnant, scientists from the University of Western Australia said.

They analyzed data from over 3,400 pregnant women from Western Australia: women on average need 2 months more to get pregnant if she has some oral health problems.

Scientists have long been talking about the effect of oral diseases on the state of health in general. In the case of some infections (for example, parodontosis), bacteria that infect the gums release toxins that enter the bloodstream. Spreading blood throughout the body, these substances increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, respiratory and kidney diseases.

According to experts, their effect on reproductive function is also significant. Toxic substances can not only prevent women from successfully becoming pregnant, but also increase the risk of miscarriage and premature birth.

So, for women who want to get pregnant, researchers recommend monitoring your oral health.
