French researchers are developing the world's most powerful magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner, which will use a blue-whale-weighted magnet and allow early diagnosis of diseases such as Parkinson’s disease.

MRI allows doctors to see which parts of the brain have been damaged. The technology uses strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce detailed images.

The scanner, developed by French researchers as part of the Iseult project, includes a new cylinder-shaped magnet, which is much heavier than already used.

The super magnet has a length of 5 meters and a diameter of 5 meters, weighs 130 metric tons, the weight of a blue whale.

Researchers argue that the equipment will allow you to get brain images a hundred times more detailed than on current MRI. The device is still under development and is expected to be released by the end of 2020 or early 2021.
