People with psoriasis have an increased risk of developing several types of cancer and death from them, scientists from the University of Manchester found out.

The study, published in JAMA Dermatology, is a review of data from 58 observational studies on the connection between cancer and psoriasis.

According to a meta-analysis, patients with psoriasis compared with those who do not have this disease are 1.18 times more likely to develop several types of cancer, while patients struggling of psoriasis face the risk of developing cancer and death 1.22 time higher.

Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune disease that accelerates the growth of skin cells and leads to rashes on the body in the form of thickened red scaly spots. They are most often found on the knees, scalp, elbows, lower back, face, soles of the feet and palms.
