A lack of vitamin D can adversely affect the functioning of the muscular system in people over 60 years of age, according to staff at Holy Trinity College in Dublin.

According to The Indian Times, scientists conducted a study involving more than 4,000 elderly volunteers and found that amid vitamin deficiency, muscle weakness was almost two times more likely than normal vitamin levels (40.4% versus 21.6%).

Violation of the muscular system in people with a lack of this vitamin was found three times more often - 25.2% versus 7.9%. It turned out that vitamin D deficiency significantly increased the likelihood of a decrease in muscle strength and performance. Preventing vitamin deficiency will prevent problems with both muscles and bones, scientists say.
