There may be a connection between diseases of the cardiovascular system and the risk of developing cancer, scientists from the Mayo Clinic found out.

The scientists have observed 488 patients with cardiovascular diseases for over 10 years.

According to experts, microvascular endothelial dysfunction is often present in individuals with a high risk of developing cancer. This dysfunction manifests itself in damage to the walls of small vessels in the heart.

Usually, dysfunction develops amid hypertension, high cholesterol, obesity and diabetes or chest pain.

According to scientists, microvascular endothelial dysfunction can predict the future development of cancer. The relationship between this condition and the risk of cancer was more pronounced among men and patients with hypertension, coronary artery disease, as well as in smokers and obese.
