About 40% of cancers can be prevented with minor lifestyle changes, Cancer Research UK reported.

What can be done today to reduce the risk of cancer?

Lose weight or stay fit

In 2017, the World Cancer Research (WCRF) published evidence that the risk of developing stomach cancer is directly related to obesity. Moreover, the more a person weighs, the more various cancers threatens him. Obesity is linked to a cancer of the breast, uterus, liver, prostate and pancreas.

According to Linda Bauld, a professor of healthy lifestyle politics at the University of Stirling, any weight loss will help reduce the risk of cancer, so if you are overweight, start losing weight today.

Give up smoking

Smoking is one of the most serious risk factors for the development of a number of oncological diseases. Lung cancer ranked first: 9 out of 10 cases of this disease are linked to smoking. This habit also increases the risk of developing cancer of the bladder, oral cavity and many other types of cancer.

Give up alcohol

According to new data, the risk of developing cancer increases even with a low level of alcohol consumption, so it’s better not to drink at all. Seven types of cancer correlate with alcohol consumption, including cancer of the breast, liver, intestines, mouth and throat, and stomach.

Control the amount of meat in your diet and cook it correctly

Consumption of processed and red meat is linked to a higher risk of developing cancer of the intestines and stomach. According to the recommendations of nutritionists, do not eat more than 70 grams of meat per day. You also need to abandon processed meat (sausages, sausages and so on) and fried ones.

An interesting study by Kansas State University showed that pickling meat in spices such as rosemary, thyme, oregano, basil, sage and marjoram before cooking can reduce the cancer-causing components of HCA, so try to marinate meat before cooking.

Move more

People who are physically active for at least 30 minutes a day have a lower risk of developing cancer than less active people. It is believed that physical activity promotes faster passage of food through the intestines, which reduces the likelihood of provoking an inflammatory reaction in the intestine and thereby reduces the risk of colorectal cancer.
