17:12 14 April, 2021The risk of death from COVID-19 triples for patients with low physical activity, a study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine noted.
American scientists also found that low physical activity also doubled the likelihood of a person with coronavirus infection going to the hospital. Moreover, passive people also had a 70% increased risk of being admitted to intensive care.
The study authors examined data from 48,000 people with coronavirus infection and found that low physical activity can be considered one of the most dangerous risk factors, along with smoking, obesity, diabetes, and hypertension.
Health authorities around the world must take this into account in their work with the population, which is especially important given how difficult it is to keep fit during isolation, the experts noted in their report.
