People who skip breakfast run the risk of a dangerous lack of essential nutrients for the body, according to scientists from Ohio State University.

The study, which was published in the journal Proceedings of the Nutrition Society, looked at 30,889 Americans aged 19 years and older who were required to compile 24/7 food intake reports.

Analysis of the data obtained showed that 15.2% of the participants, or 4924 people, refused breakfast. The experts calculated the approximate number of nutrients for a person based on data on food intake. They compared the results with the recommendations of the US Food and Nutrition Board.

As it turned out, people who skipped breakfast consumed fewer vitamins than those who regularly ate breakfast. The most significant difference was in the amount of folic acid, calcium, iron, as well as vitamins B2, B3, C and D.
