What is the similarity of 96% of patients re-infected with COVID-19?

People who have re-infected with coronavirus have one important similarity, medRxiv reported referring to the study.

The study authors pulled test data from 23 patients from a large database of US electronic health records. Patients tested positive with a difference of at least 60 days, after which they received two negative results. This confirms that later they had a re-infection, and not a long course of infection.

According to the study, 96% of recurrent patients had two or more underlying chronic conditions. 70% of patients had hypertension, 26% had cardiovascular disease, atrial fibrillation or chronic kidney disease, and 22% had type 2 diabetes or a history of venous thromboembolism or long-term anticoagulant therapy.

The study found that the presence of two or more comorbidities is not the only common characteristic of patients re-infected with coronavirus. The researchers found that 61% of those reinfected were overweight or obese, and 83% were immune deficient. Moreover, 83% were smokers.
