Meat can be a dangerous source of foodborne illness, so extreme caution is advised when handling it.

If, after cooking meat, you return a piece to the plate on which it was lying raw, you are putting your health in serious danger. Specialists from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) note that bacteria present in raw meat can be introduced into the cooked piece. Avoid cross-contamination by preparing two plates in advance for raw and cooked meat.

This rule, according to experts, applies to all types of meat, as well as poultry, seafood and fish.

After you finish cooking, it is recommended that you immediately rinse the plates on which the raw meat was lying. Be sure to use dishwashing detergent, ideally antibacterial agents.
