09:41 2 November, 2021Some foods increase the risk of developing dementia, warn researchers at Dementia Australia.
Avoiding harmful foods altogether will not help to avoid dementia 100 percent, but will considerably reduce the risk of its occurrence, according to the Daily Express.
As per experts, the number of harmful foods that accelerate the development of dementia include foods containing saturated fats and trans fats. These include oily dairy products—including butter, as well as chocolate, fat, meat, palm and coconut oil. Fast foods, fried foods and snacks, and store-bought cakes—including cakes and cookies—are packed with trans fats.
Research has shown that people who consume the abovementioned foods are at greater risk of developing dementia, whereas those who follow a diet high in unsaturated, non-hydrogenated fats have a lower risk of developing this cognitive impairment.
