Seafood in general is considered very healthy, but the healthiest of them, according to nutritionist and dietician Nadezhda Tsapkina, are mackerel and herring, RIA Novosti reported.

According to the expert, the fish of the north seas are beneficial, easily digestible proteins, and a source of vitamin D, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants.

"All this has a beneficial effect on the immune system. Moreover, the smaller the fish, the fewer toxins—which in large quantities can be harmful to our body—accumulate in them," added the specialist.
