Russian scientists develop method for determining 3 subspecies of Omicron

Scientists at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology (Russia) have developed a laboratory technique to determine 3 subspecies of the coronavirus omicron strain.

According to Rospotrebnadzor, a set of primers and probes had previously been created to detect 2 delta strain mutations and 4 omicron mutations. On the basis of this panel new one was created, capable of obtaining reliable results in a few hours.

This technique is planned to be actively used for screening studies, which will make it possible to conduct virological monitoring in a timely manner and respond to changes in the epidemiological situation in the country.
