Consumption of sugar-sweetened drinks increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, scientists from the University of Cambridge say. According to them, to prevent diabetes it is necessary to replace soft drinks, sweetened dairy drinks, sweetened tea and coffee, as well as liqueurs and fruit juices with water and unsweetened coffee or tea.

According to scientists, replacing even one serving of a sugary beverage a day can reduce the risk of developing diabetes by 14 percent to 25 percent. Water and unsweetened tea or coffee are considered acceptable and safe alternatives.

Continuing to drink sugary drinks, however, will contribute to the development of diabetes, which in turn will lead to other serious problems, including cardiovascular, nervous and immune system problems.
