18:10 6 March, 2022Coffee, contrary to popular belief, does not actually give people extra energy, according to nutritionist Pooja Makhija.
In her Instagram account, the specialist said that coffee only takes energy on loan: that is, caffeine, like any stimulant, simply uses up the body's resources.
According to Makhija, this happens because caffeine has a similar structure to adenosine, which is accumulated in the body during the day and causes a feeling of sleepiness. When a person drinks coffee, the adenosine receptors in the brain are flooded with caffeine, and this gives a temporary illusion of alertness. The brain needs adenosine, so it begins to create new receptors, which are filled with adenosine or caffeine during the day if a person drinks a lot of coffee.
According to Makhija, this is why some people will suffer from insomnia if they drink coffee during the day, while others fall asleep peacefully after a cup of drink - it all depends on which substance has entered the receptors.
To get a healthy energy boost during the day, the nutritionist advises not to drink coffee, but to have a snack.
