What is the likelihood of blood clots after COVID-19?

After a COVID-19, patients have an increased risk of blood clots within six months, scientists from Sweden inform.

The results of their new study were described in the journal BMJ.

The authors analyzed data from all COVID-19 patients in Sweden between February 2020 and May 2021. As it turned out, the likelihood of developing a complication in the form of a pulmonary embolism increases 33 times after COVID-19.

In addition, the risk of deep vein thrombosis (which most often occurs in the legs or pelvis) grows by 5 times within 3 months after infection.

According to the scientists, people who had severe COVID-19, as well as those with chronic illnesses, were particularly susceptible to blood clots.
