Is honey good for health?

The constant consumption of honey is harmful to health due to its high sugar content, Mikhail Ginzburg, a dietitian, director of the Samara Research Institute of Dietetics and Nutrition Therapy told URA.RU.

The product can accelerate aging, the development of cardiovascular diseases, tumors, obesity, and diabetes.

"The benefits of honey are greatly exaggerated, as it is a highly sugary product. And sugar is harmful, it accelerates aging, the development of cardiovascular diseases, tumors, it affects the teeth, perverts eating behavior, obesity, diabetes, and so on. Honey is also a highly allergic product. A reaction can occur to it. And if this happens, then such people should not use honey externally, even as part of creams, " said Mikhail Ginzburg.

According to the nutritionist, honey is useful only for colds.

The specialist noted that a day without harm to health can be consumed no more than three teaspoons of honey. "If you are young, up to 40 years old, energetic, mobile and so on, then you can consume no more than 2-3 teaspoons of honey a day without harm to your health, instead of other sources of sugar. If there is hypertension, diabetes, atherosclerosis, then up to one teaspoon, and that at the end of a meal. But it is better to do without all of this, as well as without sugar," concluded the doctor nutritionist.
