Children born from insemination procedures using frozen embryos may be at increased risk of developing cancer

Children born from in-vitro fertilization procedures using frozen embryos may be at increased risk of developing cancer, Swedish researchers have concluded.

The findings were published in the journal PLOS Medicine.

For this procedure, an embryo is created in the lab from an egg and sperm, frozen, and then thawed before implantation.

For the new study, scientists analyzed medical data from more than 7.9 million children in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. Of these, about 172,000 were born as a result of assisted reproductive technology (ART), including 22,630 babies born after a frozen/frozen fetus transfer.
