The habit of not eating in the morning impairs the cognitive functions of the brain, said scientists from Zhejiang University, Life Metabolism reported.

The team collected data on the eating habits of 3,342 men from the publicly available China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS) database. In addition, a number of cognitive function tests were conducted on the respondents.

After analyzing their findings, they concluded that eating on a regular schedule, with 4-5 hours between meals, had the best effect on cognitive health. Skipping breakfast increases the risk of cognitive decline.

Researchers plan to continue the study to confirm the results in different populations and to identify underlying mechanisms between cognitive function and meals.
