Regular orgasms help women recover better from childbirth, a study by scientists at the Sircy Institute of Medical Sciences noted.

According to an article published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine, the researchers conducted an experiment involving 55 women with an average age of 30. Twenty-six participants performed conventional Kegel exercises (repeated tension and relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles that support the bladder, uterus and vagina). The other women, in addition to the exercises, were asked to have sex and orgasm as often as possible.

Women in the second group experienced an average of 54 orgasms over six months, while women in the first group experienced only seven. Women in the first group reported an improvement in their sex life, and they also had stronger pelvic floor muscles. The researchers suggest that involuntary pelvic floor contractions during orgasm give the muscles an extra workout.

Scientists noted that pregnancy and childbirth can damage the pelvic floor, the group of muscles around the vagina, bladder and floor. This leads to urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse and decreased sexual satisfaction.
