16:18 19 November, 2024For thousands of years, researchers around the world have been trying to find something that will allow people to live forever or at least significantly increase life expectancy. Despite the development of medicine and technology, we are still not too close to eternal life, but scientists have found an effective way to increase its duration by at least 5 years, writes Futurism.
A new study conducted by American scientists and published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that adults over 40 can extend their lives by 5 years if they exercise as much as 25% of the population.

In the study, scientists created a predictive model to assess the benefits of physical activity on longevity, reports Focus. The researchers' results tripled the conventional wisdom that regular exercise is the key to healthy aging.
To create a predictive model, the researchers extracted activity tracker data from the National Health Interview Survey for people over 40. The results indicate that to prolong life, you need to move at least 160 minutes a day at a daily pace of about 4.8 kilometers per hour.
The results of the study indicate that this simple method could actually increase life expectancy from 78.6 to 84 years - six years longer than the current average life expectancy in the United States. Meanwhile, if the least active quartile of Americans walked nearly two hours a day more at the same pace, their life expectancy would increase by 11 years.
The study authors note that their work is an observational study, meaning that it is simply not possible to establish a cause-and-effect relationship. Nevertheless, exercising won't hurt if medical professionals don't advise you to limit your activity.
