18:10 10 November, 2025Drinking seven to eight cups of coffee, tea, and water a day can reduce the risk of cardiovascular and oncological diseases, according to a study published in the British Journal of Nutrition (BJN).
Over a 13-year period, scientists analyzed health and dietary data from 183,000 people. The best overall health outcomes were observed among participants who maintained a specific ratio of beverages in their diet — “two cups of tea to three cups of coffee.” Participants with the highest health indicators also regularly consumed plain water.
According to the researchers, chlorogenic acid found in coffee helps lower the risk of diabetes and neurological disorders, while also supporting a healthy gut microbiome. Catechins from tea possess anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that help protect blood vessels and tissues from damage.
However, the researchers cautioned that consuming three or more cups of coffee per day may lead to insomnia and heart rhythm disturbances. They also noted that excessive water intake can cause electrolyte imbalances.
