The source of vitamin D, which is so vital for humans to maintain their immune system, is sunlight, and its deficiency in winter can lead to vitamin deficiency in humans. But according to the latest discoveries of scientists, the mushrooms irradiated with UV light, can become a source of vitamin D.

According to Live Science, exposure to radiation almost immediately increases the concentration of vitamin by more than 100% from recommended norm. According to Michael Kalaras, a post-doctoral scholar at Penn State University in University Park, Pa, ultraviolet light sets off chemical processes, which convert cholesterol into vitamin-like compound.

The increased concentration of vitamin was maintained in the mushrooms up to a week in the refrigerator. One portion contained a daily norm - 15 micrograms. Which means, not much is needed to maintain the vitamin index on due level. Such mushrooms do not have any side effects.
