DR Congo Ebola death toll surpasses 930 as outbreak continues to accelerate

The death toll from the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has risen to at least 930, according to the country's Ministry of Health.

As of Saturday night, health authorities had confirmed 2,344 Ebola cases, with 37 additional deaths reported over the previous 24 hours—one of the highest daily increases since the outbreak began.

The current outbreak, which was officially declared in eastern DRC on May 15, has become the fastest-growing Ebola outbreak on record.

The epidemic is caused by the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, a relatively rare species for which there are currently no approved vaccines or specific treatments, making containment efforts particularly challenging.

Health officials continue to monitor the situation closely as they work to slow transmission and expand access to supportive medical care.
