More than 1,500 cases of West Nile virus infection recorded in Europe

More than 1,500 cases of West Nile virus infection have been reported in Europe since the spring of this year, with the infections acquired within the countries themselves rather than during travel abroad.

According to Spiegel, the data come from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

As of September 23, Italy had reported the highest number of cases, accounting for approximately 696 of the total 1,569 cases. It was followed by Greece with 355 cases, Spain with 125, France with 102, Romania with 91, and other countries.
