Yerevan hosts major international conference on cancer
Non-infectious diseases are widespread in Armenia, and its number grows each year. Oncological diseases are among the three non-infectious diseases, mortality of which is very high. For this reason conferences, which can promote better prevention and treatment of these diseases, are very important for Armenia, said the Deputy Minister of Health of Armenia Sergei Khachatryan at the opening of the first joint conference of the American Union of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the Armenian Association of Hematology and Oncology, dedicated to the latest advances in the treatment of breast cancer, cancer of the gastrointestinal tract and
"Today we're working with some Armenian oncology groups to provide education and present multidisciplinary cancer management of common tumor types," Vanessa Eaton, Manager of Internetional Education, International Affairs department of American Society of Clinical Oncology told NEWS.am Medicine.
Chairman of the Armenian Association of Hematology and Oncology Samvel Danielian said that delegation of the largest organization in the world arrived in Armenia to share experiences with their Armenian colleagues. "This communication is necessary, we cannot be isolated, we need to integrate, and this is one of the steps towards the integration,'' – he said.
Representative of the Armenian Association Gevorg Tamamyan noted that this is the first such major international conference on the topic of cancer in Armenia. "Famous hematologists and oncologists from all over the world arrived to Armenia to present their achievements. There is also an educational component,'' – he said.
Within the frames of the conference methods of treatment of breast cancer will be considered on May 13, May 14 will be devoted to cancer of the gastrointestinal tract, and on 15th of May the conference will discuss the latest advances in the treatment of leukemia.
