Unexpected causes of belly fat

Visceral fat - fat in the belly area - is the most dangerous fat for health, however, it does not appear only because of an unhealthy diet, says nutritionist Safa Kamran.

"Cigarette smoking is another important factor that increases the risk of visceral fat accumulation," said the specialist.

According to the publication Eat This, Not That!, because of smoking, the body is exposed to a lot of harmful substances, due to which not only health, but also the size of the waistline suffers.

Another risk factor for visceral obesity Kamran considers regular alcohol consumption.

"The more you drink, the harder it will be to lose weight and not gain it again," she noted. "You have to try as hard as possible to limit the amount of alcohol you consume."

Belly fat also starts to accumulate as a result of a sedentary lifestyle. According to the nutritionist, this can be avoided with daily physical activity.

"Exercise may not be so heavy - even light activity, such as walking or biking, helps," she noted. "You should also try getting up and moving about once an hour."
