What diseases can be identified by condition of hands?

According to rheumatologist-cardiologist Victoria Lvovskaya (Russia), some diseases can manifest on the hands.

In a conversation with Channel 5, the specialist noted that excessive sweating of the palms may indicate hyperfunction of the thyroid gland: in such a patient too many hormones are produced, metabolic processes are accelerated, which leads to unpleasant symptoms.

Pallor and dry palms, in turn, may indicate reduced thyroid function. Flaky skin on the hands, according to a specialist, often indicates a lack of vitamins and elevated blood sugar levels.

Yellowing of the skin on the hands, according to the specialist, usually indicates liver and biliary tract disease. Reddening of the palms may also indicate liver disease or intoxication of the body.

If the palms are enlarged, it may indicate the presence of tumors of the pituitary gland, the lower brain appendage. The pituitary gland, as the specialist reminds us, produces hormones that affect growth, metabolism and reproductive function.

Finger numbness and tremor, in turn, hint at neurological disorders.

Thickening in the area of the distal interphalangeal joints, according to the specialist, may indicate the development of a nodular form of osteoarthritis, and joint deformity may be a consequence of rheumatoid or psoriatic osteoarthritis, pointing to gouty arthritis. Thickening of the fingertips in the form of "drumsticks" and nails that look like "dials" could indicate lung or heart problems.
