Disease X: When is new pandemic expected, what pathogen will it arise from? Interview with Mary Ter-Stepanyan
Disease X can come after 3, 10 or 20 years. There will be a new pandemic anyway. We should always be ready for it.
If we did not carry out preparatory work in 2017-18, the outcomes of covid would have been much worse.
As a result of covid, people started washing their hands and using hand sanitizers. For some people, it has become a habit, until now they keep disinfectant liquidс in their bags.
It took 300 days to prepare the covid vaccine, and the next one is expected to take 100 days. I will be the first to be vaccinated with that vaccine, because I know how it’s tested and how effective it will be.
We can have much bigger problems from the air we breathe or the food we eat than from vaccines.
Most likely, the virus will be of animal origin. There is a high probability that bird flu could be next.
According to calculations, if we go on like this, by 2050, the problem of antibiotic resistance will beat cancer and become the main cause of deaths in the world.

Mary Ter-Stepanyan
Mary Ter-Stepanyan is a professor of epidemiology, head of the Department of Epidemiology at YSU. He is the Scientific Secretary of the Armenian Association of "Armenian Epidemiologists, Medical Microbiologists and Parasitologists", a member of the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID). She has authored more than 100 scientific works, 3 textbooks, 3 methodological manuals and 2 invention proposals.
