Researchers from the University of Liverpool (UK) have found that children eat too much food when they are bored, an this habit can lead to excess weight.

The results of this study were published in the journal Nutrients.

Researchers conducted this experiment with 119 families with four- to five-year-old kid. Parents were asked to describe their children's personality and eating habits. Then the participants of the experiment helped everyone create a familiar environment for eating and provide food.

The analysis showed that the bored kids consumed an average of 36 more calories. Researchers have explained that many children experience this emotion quite often. The habit of coping with boredom with food can lead to overeating. The accumulation of excess calories, in turn, leads to negative consequences in the form of fat deposits in the body.

Experts emphasized that it is not necessary to constantly entertain children so that they don’t get bored. It is important to teach them to find non-food activities on their own to prevent overeating.
