Everyone in Armenia to be able to make use of program to overcome infertility

The program to overcome infertility, which started in 2020, will be open to all Armenian citizens, regardless of their place of residence, social and marital status. Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan stated this at Thursday’s cabinet session of the Armenian government, reminding that the priority in this program funded by the state had been given to the families of fallen servicemen and residents of border settlements, and included a small group of beneficiaries.

"We believe that this program is highly anticipated because we have quite a lot of applications that we have queued up. And we believe that as a result of expanding the program, we will be able to meet the demand of our citizens," said Avanesyan.

According to her, a survey was conducted in Armenia in 2021 and it was found that Armenia has an improvement in the indicators of primary infertility, which is related to the accessibility of healthcare services and awareness.

The health minister noted that there is an increase in secondary infertility in Armenia, and in order to overcome it, the health ministry provides an opportunity—with this program—to the families of the border settlements who have one child, to become beneficiaries of this program and have a second child.

She informed that 250 children were born so far in Armenia within the framework of the program to overcome infertility in the country.

In his turn, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that with this decision, Armenia will provide state-funded artificial insemination—with the use of new technology—to everyone in the country, so that children are born in these families.

"First, we carry out infertility treatment with state funding, later we use artificial insemination technologies as needed," he said.
