Corruption in the health sector ineradicable? Results of survey by NEWS.am Medicine

Most of Armenians think, that corruption in Health sector and corruption in general are ineradicable, according to the survey on NEWS.am Medicine.

Thus, from 1238 respondents, answering the question how to eradicate corruption in the health system of Armenia, 671 or 54% chose the answer "Corruption is deep-rooted." 23% (288 people) think, that significant contribution to the fight against corruption can make tangible improvements in salaries of doctors and the introduction of compulsory health insurance.

Is it true, that corruption in Armenia can not be eradicated? What steps are taken to eradicate corruption in the health sector? On these issues we talked with the head of the State Agency of Health of Armenia Saro Tzaturyan.

’The phrase "cannot be eradicated" is too categorical. We can say that this is a complex process, as this problem has been in the country for several decades’’ said Saro Tzaturyan. According to the Head of the State agency, the Ministry of Health of Armenia and other government bodies have already adopted a number of measures against corruption. ‘’Unfavorable effects in this sector has decreased and are continuing to decrease,’’ said Tzaturyan. To the question – is it possible, that measures like increasing salaries of doctors and introduction of compulsory health insurance, contribute to the fight against corruption, Saro Tzaturyan answered positive: ’’Yes, we should fight against corruption with the help of such measures.’’
