Which foods are good for thyroid gland and help supplement iodine deficiency in human body? Russian Doctor-nutritionist Irina Ril expressed her view in this regard, as reported by RIA Novosti.

Iodine-containing foods are necessary for the normal functioning of the thyroid gland. The specialist mentioned algae, seafood, sea fish, feijoa, dates, and nuts as an ideal option.

In addition, the dietitian advised to eat foods containing tyrosine for the production of hormones.

"This amino acid is contained in avocado, kiwi, fig, apricot, banana. Selenium is needed for the production of the T3 and T4 hormones. The leader in its content is the Brazil nut," added Ril.

The iodine content in foods may depend on the country of origin. For example, the iodine content of nuts grown in Armenia is very low, as there is very little iodine in the soil and water in this region.
