The Guardian: First personalized cancer vaccine developed

April 30, 2024  08:38

UK researchers have made progress in the treatment of oncological diseases. They created the world’s first personalized mRNA cancer vaccine for melanoma, reported The Guardian.

Oncological diseases are still the most dangerous and occupy the first positions in the list of deaths. And melanoma is one of those types of cancer that are more difficult to treat.

The new vaccine, created by UK specialists, has successfully passed the first two phases of testing. Now the third phase of trials has begun, in which hundreds of patients participate.

The main advantage of the new vaccine is its exclusivity, as it is prepared for each patient individually.  It is designed to trigger the immune system, and forces the body to identify cancer cells on its own.

The coordinators of the research note that the new product has good potential and can cure cancer once and for all.

To prepare this vaccine, a tumor sample is taken from the patient, and then the DNA is sequenced using artificial intelligence.
