Why should you stop drinking beer?

Giving up beer can have a positive effect on health, American experts say.

According to Eat This, Not That!, quitting beer can help get rid of bloating, lose weight, improve liver function, improve sleep and clear your mind, according to experts.

"Cutting out beer from your diet can help to flatten your belly for a few reasons: it reduces your calorie intake, it can help prevent you from overeating since alcohol spikes your appetite, and because it prevents the carbs in beer from bloating you," said Dr. Josh Axe.

He said beer disrupts the balance of beneficial bacteria in the gut and irritates it, which can lead to digestive disorders and, consequently, belly fat.

Giving up beer will also help normalize the work of the liver, freeing it from the processing of alcohol, so that the organ becomes more efficient in breaking down toxins and other harmful substances.

Nutritionist Keri Glassman says, that alcoholic beverages, including beer, contain many empty calories that contribute to gaining excess weight. If a person wants to lose weight, he needs to minimize his intake of empty calories.

Physician Frank Lipman says, that alcohol disrupts natural sleep cycles. According to him, even two drinks a day can be enough to disrupt the 24-hour sleep cycle and cause insomnia. However, beer contributes to this even more than other drinks, as it is usually drunk enough that a person may wake up even more often at night to go to the bathroom.

In addition, a person who drinks beer regularly may experience problems with mental clarity. According to neurophysiologist Suzanne Gazda, it's not just the intoxicating effects of the drink, but also the fact that toxins and heavy metals can get into it during production. Although there are usually few of them in beer, some people are sensitive to them, and they can experience problems ranging from headaches to memory problems and other negative effects.
