How much sugar a day is not dangerous to health?

Cardiologist Diana Novikova (Russia) told how much sugar can be consumed per day without harming your health.

Speaking of sugar, experts mean any source of glucose: these include sugars added to food, sugars contained in honey and syrup, and sweet fizzy drinks, tea, morses, energy drinks, cakes and cookies, sweet curds, yogurts, ice cream, candy, honey, as well as white sugar in its pure form.

"Sugars found in natural raw foods do not include added sugar. One of the main recommendations I give my patients is that consumption of free sugars should not exceed 10% of total energy intake. Better yet, reduce sugar altogether to less than 5%," said the specialist.

In recent decades, the amount of foods containing a high percentage of sugar has increased significantly in our diets. This has led to an increase in diseases related to obesity and diabetes, high blood pressure, and flaccid chronic inflammation.

To give you an example, let's calculate the daily rate of sugar intake. If a person's daily diet is 1,700 kcal, 10 percent allotted to sugar is 170 kcal, or 42 grams. This is a little less than 2 tablespoons of jam or honey, 50 grams of milk chocolate or 70 grams of cake, 150 grams of ice cream or a glass of Coke.

Ideally, it is recommended that this dose be halved to 5% of your total daily calorie intake.
