Losing weight in middle age: Tips from experts

For effective weight loss, especially in middle age, it is very important to drink enough fluids, says nutritionist Jonathan Valdez (USA).

Not all liquids will help you lose weight, says Eat This, Not That! Many drinks from stores, for example, contain too much sugar, and drinking them, of course, is not recommended.

If drinking plain water is difficult, you can add strawberries, for example, to it, according to a specialist.

"Eight strawberries contain only as much vitamin C as a whole orange. That's the amount a person needs for the day. It helps maintain optimal collagen levels in the skin and bones. In addition, such a drink will satiate you better than an ordinary glass of water, " said the nutritionist.

He also advises to limit alcohol consumption, as it is a source of extra calories. A standard portion of alcohol, equal to about a glass of wine, contains about 100 kilocalories, and even if you drink one portion of alcohol a day, the body gets 700 unnecessary kilocalories per week.

Instead of alcohol, the expert recommends drinking an herbal hour with fruit, such as apples or pears.

"I often put a slice of apple or pear in a cup of tea before pouring boiling water. After the last sip, there's still some cooked fruit in the mug," Valdez said, adding that it's a good way to add flavor to a healthy but often tasteless herbal tea.

The specialist also urged drinking protein shakes, since you need enough protein for healthy weight loss. It is also advisable to give up juices in favor of fresh fruits and vegetables, because they contain fiber, which helps you stay full longer, and when making juices, almost all of the fiber is lost.
