What is the danger of snoring?

Snoring can cause sleep apnea, which can lead to heart attack and stroke, otolaryngologist Vladimir Zaitsev (Russia) says.

"Snoring is insanely dangerous for humans. Insanely in the sense of deadly. Snoring is the hallmark of having a person's nose not breathing at night. The nose is blocked, and the consequence is that the brain is not ventilated, or rather minimally ventilated. There are respiratory stoppages, this is called night apnea. The respiratory stoppage is prolonged. This can lead to heart attacks and strokes," the specialist said in a conversation with Ura.ru.

According to him, snoring can have many different causes. For example, snoring may be caused by a congenital or traumatic deviated septum, overgrowth of the lower nasal cavities or even due to excessive weight. The danger of the latter case is that in addition to the abdomen, hips and back, fat may also be deposited at the level of the neck, squeezing the airway and causing snoring.

The specialist urged people suffering from snoring to see a doctor immediately, who will examine them, identify its cause and tell how to get rid of it.
