In spring many fruits and vegetables look very attractive to the buyer, but they can be very harmful to health, Nata Gonchar, founder of the International Institute of Integrative Nutritionology, said.

The specialist warned that producers quite often use nitrates to hasten the process of ripening of seasonal fruits. Large amounts of these substances getting into human body may cause allergies or poisoning, and in some cases disrupt the thyroid gland and gastrointestinal tract. In addition, the accumulation of nitrates in the body can lead to chronic intoxication.

According to the specialist, buying fruits and vegetables in the store, you should pay special attention to their appearance - if the fruit is too big and bright, then they are likely to contain a lot of chemical additives, and their "shine" indicates their external treatment with wax or paraffin.

Of fruits and berries, apples, strawberries and grapes are worth paying most attention, and of vegetables and greens - celery, spinach, bell peppers and cucumbers, the expert said.
