In an interview with SOLENKA.INFO, pulmonologist Viktor Safonov tells how to stop smoking in 5 steps.

 Even 10-15 years ago, smoking was very fashionable. But, fortunately, this detrimental to human health fashion has passed. However, not all smokers find it easy to give up cigarettes. Pulmonologist listed five steps to help quit smoking.

Motivation

Many people who quit smoking, after some time back to this bad habit. The fact is that most smokers are not really ready to get rid of smoking forever. Also, do not forget about the craving for nicotine, which is very difficult to overcome. Safonov advises not to hide behind general phrases about the harms of smoking and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. Each person must find his personal motivating reason that will make him give up cigarettes.

A specific date to quit smoking

A promise that is not tied to a date or event is most often meaningless. Set yourself a specific date and before that date, start gradually reducing the number of cigarettes you smoke per day.

Strategy

According to the expert, there are two main strategies for quitting the addiction: quick uncompromising and long-term sparing. What strategy to choose depends on the length of smoking experience, the presence of existing diseases in a person, willpower, etc.

Medicament therapy

The smoker who has decided to give up cigarettes, must be prepared not only for moral, but also physical discomfort. Some people get headaches, irritability, rapid fatigue. All this can lead to a breakdown and quitting smoking will end in failure. To more easily endure this difficult period, the expert advises to resort to the help of alternatives to cigarettes: special patches, chewing gum and medications.

Change the "focus of attention"

The first time a person will miss cigarettes very much. Therefore, the key to success in the fight against nicotine addiction will be the ability to switch your brain to something else. Think in advance what you personally can replace the usual cigarette breaks. It can be 5 minutes of listening to music, or better yet 10 minutes of exercise, which will not only switch the "focus", but also bring additional health benefits.
