How to maintain serotonin in normal range with healthy products?

Nutritionist Marina Yartseva, in an interview with SOLENKA.INFO, told how to maintain the "happiness hormone" serotonin in the normal range with the help of healthy products.

According to the specialist, serotonin is a biogenic amine, a neurotransmitter that affects the physiology, psycho-emotional state of a person and his mood. In addition, it regulates the functions of blood vessels and gastrointestinal motility. Serotonin is found in platelets, the gastrointestinal tract and the human central nervous system.

The formation of serotonin requires the amino acid tryptophan, which is not synthesized by our body, therefore it can only be obtained from food.

The nutritionist gave several recommendations, the observance of which will help increase the level of serotonin without the use of medications:

1. Power adjustment. Eating sweet and simple carbohydrates increases serotonin levels. But, it is not worth abusing this way of increasing the “hormone of happiness”. It would be more correct and useful to add foods rich in vitamin B6 (pistachios, sunflower seeds, garlic, beans, soybeans, walnuts, salmon, mackerel, tuna, sesame), B2 (dried white mushrooms and champignons, beef liver, beef kidneys) to the daily menu. , Fetta cheese, quail egg, almonds, chicken egg protein, sesame, mackerel) and vitamin D (fish oil, fatty herring, chum salmon, mackerel, salmon, pink salmon, tuna, black granular caviar, chicken egg yolk, chanterelle mushrooms) .

2. Sports. Any physical activity increases the level of serotonin in the blood.

3. Good sleep.

4. Meditation. During meditation, a person lets go of all negativity and becomes happier.

5. Sunbathing.

6. Taking a 5-HTP dietary supplement, which is indicated for frequent emotional disorders, anxiety, stress, depression, increased appetite, unbalanced intake of protein and carbohydrates.
