6 healthy alternatives to sweet desserts

Nutritionist Laura Burak names six healthy alternatives to sugary desserts in a piece for Eat This, Not That! She advises replacing some desserts with healthier ones:

  • To eat desserts without harming your figure, you should replace ice cream with coconut yogurt, which will cut calories and increase benefits. You can add fruit and nuts for a richer flavor. For lovers of sherbets and fruit ice cream, she advised mixing frozen fruit with milk.
  • Ordinary flour should be replaced by almond flour, and classic desserts, such as red velvet and honey cakes, should be avoided.
  • In addition, you should give up chewy candies and toffees in favor of antioxidant- and fiber-rich dates with peanut paste.
  • Instead of the usual waffles with syrup, nutritionists recommend making frozen whole-grain waffles, smearing them with peanut butter and sprinkling them with berries.
  • To reduce cravings for sweets, the nutritionist suggested choosing dark chocolate with high cocoa content and eating a piece after a meal or during a snack.
  • The specialist called for abandoning milkshakes in favor of vegetable and fruit drinks. "Smoothies are a healthier option that will make you feel energetic rather than sleepy," Burak explained.
