What are the signs that a person has problems with eating behavior? Albina Komissarova, nutritionist, says.
The specialist noted that no information found on the Internet can replace the consultation of a doctor, a specialist in the field of nutrition, but there are certain signs that allow to suspect problems with eating behavior.
Particular attention should be paid to the following signs:
- A lot of thinking about food, weight, calories,
- Refusal to eat certain foods for fear of gaining excess weight,
- the appearance of a large number of food rituals (for example, eating can include only certain foods, very slow chewing, eating alone, and so on),
- mood and self-esteem are directly dependent on the food consumed,
- constant checking of the figure in front of the mirror.
Of course, the presence of these signs does not mean that a person has serious eating behavior problems. Only a specialist can determine whether there really is a problem or not.
And to prevent such problems, the nutritionist recommends trying to implement several principles of a healthy relationship to food:
- Stop dividing food into "bad" and "good",
- stop setting time limits for eating certain foods,
- stop subscribing on social media to sources that indoctrinate you into thinking you're not eating right,
- if necessary, seek help from a professional.
