What is the importance of outdoor activities?

In the warm summer weather, there are many psychological benefits to participating in outdoor activities, Samantha Harden, assistant professor of human nutrition, food and exercise, told Medical Xpress.

The expert said that summer outdoor aerobic and strength training can range from walking with the family to playing ball with the dog. Other outdoor activities include:

- hiking

- biking

- kayaking

- outdoor yoga

- playing volleyball or basketball.

- swimming

The summer heat increases stress on the body, so it's important to exercise safely outdoors. Harden gave some tips on how to keep an eye on your body and when to stop exercising outside in the summer heat:

- Feeling cold or clammy when you're outside in the heat

- Unable to catch your breath

- Excessive redness of the skin

- Breathing too hard.

If you experience any of these symptoms, it is important to stop exercising, drink fluids, and move to a cooler place if possible.
