Russian scientists have developed the first PCR test for the diagnosis of malaria.
According to the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology's website, the test has a high analytical sensitivity, allowing it to detect a problem even with a low level of infection, as well as in the incubation and initial periods of the disease.
The new technique will avoid false-positive results of the microscopic analysis in the case of analysis of poor quality blood products, RG.ru reported.
Nearly 250 million new infections and about half a million deaths from malaria are recorded annually in the world. The most vulnerable are children under the age of 5.
