WHO revises its position on COVID-19 vaccination of children

June 24, 2021  09:30

Children can still be vaccinated against the coronavirus, the WHO website reported.

Just two days ago, the WHO recommendations said that COVID-19 vaccination is contraindicated for children. Now WHO experts have revised their position.

The vaccination campaign, according to the updated document, should be less urgent if children are not in a group with a higher risk of severe COVID-19. Priority should be given to the elderly, those with chronic illnesses, and health workers.

The document also noted that children and adolescents tend to carry COVID-19 more mildly than adults, unless they are at risk for certain diseases.
