Scientists speak on signs of deterioration in COVID-19 vacinnes effectiveness  

Coronavirus vaccines may be becoming less effective in preventing mild forms of COVID-19, as evidenced by the rise in new cases of delta COVID-19 infections in Israel, where the majority of the population received the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine.

According to MedicalXpress, it is too early to talk about a deterioration in the effectiveness of vaccines against the Indian strain, which appeared in April and has since spread rapidly around the world.

In Israel, vaccination against coronavirus went faster than in other countries, and as a result, the transmission of the virus dropped to 5 cases per day.

However, in recent days, the number of detected infections has increased to 300 cases due to the spread of the "delta" variant. About half of the cases are children, and the other half are vaccinated adults. The proportion of vaccinated adults reaches 85%, but some experts suggest that the number of new infections is outside the expected range.

The number of severe cases among vaccinated Israelis has risen in recent days from about one case every two days to five cases a day. Nevertheless, experts still hope that the vaccine's effectiveness against serious diseases will remain as high as for the "alpha" variant, first identified in the UK in December.

Over the past 12 days, the death rate in Israel has been zero.
