7970 new cases of cancer deseases registered in Armenia in 2013

7970 new cases of cancer deseases are registered in Armenia in 2013, of which 3969 are women, 3942 are men and 59 are children,  the National Institute of Health in the Ministry of Health of Armenia told NEWS.am Medicine.

Compared with the last year (7943) this figure rose slightly, but during the five-year period there is a clear dynamics of growth: in 2013 compared to 2008 (7404) there are 566 more cases registered  (7,6%).

For men the first place is cancer of the respiratory tract and lungs (949 cases), and the most common cancer for women is still the breast cancer (1086). Then comes by descending: stomach cancer (350), bladder (325), prostate (317) and colorectal cancer (234). For women it is: cancer of the cervix (299), colorectal cancer (263), stomach cancer (226) and ovaries (211).

Earlier this year the chief oncologist of the Ministry of Health of Armenia, the director of the National oncological center Hayrapet Galstyan informed the journalists, that according to experts, in 2022 in Armenia 10.000 new cases of cancer deseases will be registered. Both now and in ten years the most common cases will be lung cancer, breast cancer, bladder cancer and prostate cancer. According to him, if in 2002 there were 179 cases of cancer patients in 100 thousand people, 10 years ago this figure grew till 240.

According to the WHO report, in the next two decades, the number of cancer patients will grow annually by 22 million people. In 2012, this figure had increased to 14 million people. With such rates the mortality from oncological deseases will reach 13 mln people annually.
